156 Massey Scholarship Application Details

The 156 Massey Scholarship is designed to promote diversity in STEM fields by supporting underrepresented minority college students who demonstrate academic excellence and a passion for innovation. This scholarship provides financial aid to sophomores, juniors, or seniors who meet the academic criteria and are pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).

 

Scholarship Award

Amount:  $10,000

Submission Deadline

November 8, 2024 at 11:59pm .est. 

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following materials:

  1. Completed Application

  2. Personal Statement/Essay Prompts  

    1. A 500-700 word essay describing your background, career goals, and how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals. You should also highlight your passion for your chosen STEM field and how you plan to contribute to increasing diversity in STEM.

  3. Transcript

  4. An official or unofficial transcript from your current college or university showing your GPA and coursework in STEM fields.

  5. Recommendation Letters (2)  

    1. Two letters of recommendation from professors, academic advisors, or mentors who can attest to your academic performance, leadership, and commitment to the STEM field.

  6. Resume/CV

    1. A current resume or CV that includes your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, internships, research experience, and any relevant work experience.

  7. Optional Financial Need Statement 

    1. A short statement outlining any financial challenges you are facing that would make this scholarship vital to your continued education.

 

Essay Prompts  

Applicants must complete one of the following essay questions (500-700 words):

Essay Option 1: 

How is your current pursuit of a STEM major preparing you to contribute to society, and how will this scholarship help you achieve your future goals?

Essay Option 2: 

Describe an experience or challenge you faced as a minority in STEM. How did you overcome this challenge, and how has it shaped your goals and aspirations?

 

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Academic excellence (GPA and rigor of coursework)

  • Personal statement and essays

  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to increasing diversity in STEM

  • Financial need (if applicable)

  • Recommendations from professors/mentors
